Common Questions from our Clients

How Much does it cost for a bid on our tree job?

All bids are Free of charge from all of our estimators. The only time we charge is when a professional Arborist is needed to give a tree inspection. An inspection is when a professional arborist looks at the health of all trees, shrubs, and evergreens on your property that does not protain in any services to be performed. An bid is a written proposal that is given to our clients that can result in services to be performed after your approval of the work.

How long does it take after i call to receive a bid?

If we get your call before noon on a business day, most of the time it will be before 6pm the same day. This depends on how busy we are. If there was just a major windstorm,  or ice storm then it will take longer.  Our estimators schedule all of their own estimates, so you should hear from them within 12 to 24 hours of calling the office to request an estimate.  If it takes longer, we appreciate your patience and calling back in usually helps.

How many days upon approval does it take for the crew to come out?

As soon as we get your approval , our estimator will be calling or emailing you within 1-3 business days. Once again, this depends on how busy we are.  If we just had a major storm, we can be weeks behind our work in this scenario.  We appreciate your patience and value all our clients equally, its just that emergency tree service, i.e. trees on houses and such take priority over regular work.

Is your company fully insured?

Yes, we are fully insured and licensed to perform work in Louisville, Ky and all local areas. We can provide a copy of our insurance upon request.  Also, for commercial work, we can add your company as additional insured.  Please request a Certificate of Insurance from us at anytime. We are insured more than the average tree business for liability and workman’s compensation insurance.

Do your crews speak English?

Yes, our estimator will be on the job before all work is to be started,  crew foreman’s speak very good English, you should not have any trouble with this.

How do we pay our bill?

We like to collect the payment on the same day work is completed. We accept all methods of payment including Cash (for a discount), Check, or Credit cards. The estimator will come back and pick up the payment the same day if possible, or we can pick it up the next morning off your door if you have to leave before we get there. You can also leave a check with the crew upon completion of the job.  We do not ask for payment until work is completed.

Does your company top trees?

No, we do not top trees, we can reduce them if there is danger in breaking out over your home or (etc). Trees get their food from their leaves if you top them you will be cutting most their leaves off, your trees could starve, then they will die. It also alters the branch structure and integrity of the limbs causing weak branches. Topping is deceiving because at first it might appear that the tree is safer, however, in the long run has serious negative consequences.  Don’t Top your Trees.

When is the best time to prune a tree?

You can prune your trees year around. Most trees are best to prune just before bud break, however, it is generally OK to prune trees anytime of the year.  We prune shrubs anytime also, evergreen trees such as Holley or spruce trees can be shaped most anytime We always prune by the ANSI A300 tree pruning standards.

What about holes in my yard?

Sometimes damages do occur. The nature of the tree business I guess. At Marcell’s Tree Service, we are proud to say that our damage costs are extremely low for the high volume of work that we do.

Do you leave a pile of stump mulch?

Removing stumps is one of our services.  Our contracts specify the grindings will be left in the stump hole .  Many clients are not aware of this detail.  Stump grindings are the shavings (many call them) left over after the stump has been fully ground out.  There is usually a separate charge for the mulch to be hauled or leaveled off, versus backfilled and left in the hole. If the stump is large, there is a large pile of stump mulch left from the removal of the stump. Make sure you let us know weather or not you want to clean up the mulch the estimator will give you a bid on your choice for grindings to be hauled or not.

Do you haul all debris away?

Yes, all debris will be hauled and chipped. The estimator will write otherwise if the wood stays, or sometimes customers like keeping the limb wood and us hauling the larger trunk wood.  Most of the time, all wood and debris is hauled away.
